To promote and develop the growth of tennis in the Asheville area

Founded in 1961, the Asheville Tennis Association strives to provide "one voice for Asheville tennis."  Tennis is played worldwide by thousands regardless of age, gender, socio-economic background or race.  Whether you are a recreational player or a competitive player, the ATA wants to help you find the right environment to improve your tennis skills.  Play tennis now and play it for life!

Whether you are new to tennis or have been playing for years, the Asheville Tennis Association wants to provide a tennis culture where everyone can play.  As a 501 c3 non-profit,  our mission is to introduce tennis to new players and help enhance tennis skills for life-long players.  The ATA provides tennis programs and events for players of all ages and advocates for the construction and/or improvement of public tennis facilities.

As a community outreach program, our goal is to make tennis accessible and affordable to players of all ages and abilities.  We strive to be "One Voice for Asheville Tennis."

Our 2019 initiatives include the following collaborations:

  • Try Tennis - With USTA-NC and the Aston Park Tennis Center, we offer a low cost set of clinics for beginners or those who have never played, both Juniors and Adults.

  • NJTL - With the Salvation Army Community Center, we are forming an NJTL Chapter (National Junior Tennis and Learning) to continue our efforts to serve the underserved.

  • ACEing Autism - With the Asheville Racquet Club and ACEing Autism, we are taking tennis and life skills to kids with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

  • JTT (Junior Team Tennis) - With the other CTA’s in WNC - Transylvania and Henderson County CTA - we will offer JTT at the Aston Park Tennis Center. The league will emphasize local play with an end of season event that includes all 3 CTA’s.

  • Supporting every middle school tennis team, in Asheville & Buncombe County, with instruction, equipment & uniforms.

  • Partnering with Parks & Recreation to bring tennis to 4 community centers over the summer (Montford, Malvern Hills, Shiloh & Stephens Lee).

Our continuing initiatives include:

  • Free & low cost clinics to area youth

  • Free weekly clinics for Eliada home youth

  • Affordable adult clinics

  • Sunday match play for area middle schoolers

  • Adult tennis socials

  • Online tennis ladders

The ATA relies mainly on the generous support of our donors.  Your support promotes tennis to many who otherwise can't afford or wouldn't be exposed to it!
