Mary Ann Myers
An Asheville native, Mary Ann played tennis on the Owen High School boy’s tennis team in the late 70’s, but basketball was always her first love. She played D1 NCAA basketball at Miami University and coached in the collegiate ranks for ten years at UNC Asheville, Ashland University and Iowa State University.
After 35 years OFF the tennis court, her neighbor and avid USTA player coaxed her to pick up a tennis racquet again. Now she can’t seem to put it down!
Mary Ann is an active member at both ARC clubs and at Aston, and supports UNC Asheville Bulldog Tennis whenever she can. Undergrad and graduate degrees in Physical Education aids her in teaching tennis in afterschool programs with the City of Asheville.
Fun Fact: Mary Ann worked as a fraud investigator for 24 years after her coaching career.
Brett grew up in Asheville and graduated from Enka High School. Brett left Asheville to attend UNC Chapel Hill where he majored in Sports Administration. He has been teaching adults and children in Asheville for the past six years and is a certified USPTR Pro. Brett and his wife Sara enjoy hiking in beautiful Western North Carolina.
Fun Fact: Brett is a Rock Star! He plays bass guitar in a band named Summer Wars.
Jade is from Perth, Australia, yet lived in London most of her childhood before finishing high school in Perth. Jade came to the States to play college tennis at Mars Hill University. She graduated in 2017 with a Health and Physical Education degree and a K-12 teaching License. Currently, Jade works with Autistic children as a Registered Behavior Technician.
In her free time, Jade and her wife enjoy hiking with their dogs, Mitchy and Charlie, traveling, and exploring the mountains!
Fun Fact: Jade has visited 12 countries in the past 4 years and still counting!
Jean-Michel grew up in Santa Monica, California. He has over 13 years of experience with all levels and ages. UNC Charlotte ’06, Division 1 college tennis athlete, middle school coach, & junior coach for the ATA.
He has worked with hundreds of clients and juniors in California, Hawaii, and NC as a freelance tennis professional. Available for private lessons, group lessons, clinics, strategy & match coaching, and as a hitting partner (3.0+).
Fun Fact: Jean-Michel is the owner of Pong AVL, Asheville’s local source for ping pong rentals & events.
Bob played on two national championship tennis teams at University of Redlands. He then played for the USAF interservice tennis team 1984-1993. Bob prepped top level college bound juniors in Fayetteville NC and Ft Walton Beach and also worked with Philippine Davis cup team in preparation for their competitive schedule. Bob’s philosophy is that “it’s important to work on improving technical capability and technical awareness” in order to improve.
He teaches a tension free flowing stroke to maximize racket head speed through the strike zone.
Robbyn grew up in Tallahassee, FL where she played 3 sports in high school, none of which were tennis. She stuck to her degree of choice (Interior Design) instead of athletics and graduated from FSU in 1991. In 1992, she opened Nouveau Design, Inc. which allowed her free time to volunteer coach her two daughters’ sports, volleyball and basketball. Teaching tennis was an extra source of income but she did it for the love, “helping kids and adults realize their talents and stay off the couch is what keeps me out there!”.
Fun Fact: We enjoy hosting friends and tubing down the French Broad with a floating cooler of libations and boiled peanuts.
Jack has been playing tennis since age 7 and played all the way through high school. He also played soccer, baseball, and basketball in high school. Jack grew up in Asheville and graduated from Asheville High School. Jack is currently attending The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio and plans on majoring in Environmental Geoscience.
Fun Fact: Jack is a two-sport athlete in college; playing both soccer and baseball.
